oFono

My friend daf mentioned he's working on this now tonight, looked like it might be useful to the palm pre effort - http://ofono.org/ - "oFono.org is a place to bring developers together around designing an infrastructure for building mobile telephony (GSM/UMTS) applications. oFono is licensed under GPLv2, and it includes a high-level D-Bus API for use by telephony applications of any license. oFono also includes a low-level plug-in API for integrating with open source as well as third party telephony stacks, cellular modems and storage back-ends"

Well, oFono is the direct competitor to FSO's ogsmd and we believe that ogsmd's architecture is superior, so we will rather want to support ogsmd for the Pre.

Non-local participation?

Is there currently a good way for non-local people to participate, and if so, what mailing lists / irc channels / source code repositories etc should people know about?

I'm planning on cancelling my sprint contract early now that I can do so without the early termination fee [1] [2] [3]; this will leave my palm pre available for hacking only.

I'm planning on ignoring the CDMA modem (since my understanding is that the GSM modem is what you guys have been stuck on for a while, and I have no skills in that area), and instead look at doing SMS sending via pygooglevoice, receiving SMS via email, and voice via VoiP + MiFi 2200. I'm thinking this, plus maybe a cheap-ass prepaid phone that will be like $7/month (as a notification device), will be enough for me to replace the nonfree webos stack on the pre as a mobile communications platform.
